Tarini was founded by Dr. El Hadji Malick Ndiaye. An educator from Senegal, Dr. Ndiaye witnessed a powerful transformation take place year after year directing study abroad programs. He led countless students on trips to Africa, moving beyond traditional tourism to develop community-engaged learning projects. He saw that the most profound connections were not made in lecture halls, but in the collaborative work between his students and local African communities.
This hands-on approach built authentic relationships and shattered long-held stereotypes, fostering a deep, mutual respect. Tarini was created to expand this proven model—to build a permanent bridge of understanding and action, ensuring that the transformative power of shared work and cultural immersion could be experienced by many more.
Our Mission
At Tarini we look for any chance to create positive change and further connections across continents based on mutual understanding and respect.
Stateside, our mission begins with establishing educational workshops that foster cultural understanding and community engagement. Founded in the Seattle area, Tarini is committed to creating opportunities for local growth through learning about and connecting with African culture, art, history, and more.
Globally, our first goal is to create lasting, positive change by partnering with local communities across Africa and local NGOs within the USA to deliver donated medical supplies from the United States. By working alongside local institutions, we will ensure these resources reach the people who need them most while supporting sustainable, long-term impact.
